Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Aerospace & Defense and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 4.83% or 77.00 points to trade at 1672.00 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) added 2.55% or 3.90 points to end at 156.90 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) was up 2.39% or 77.00 points to 3293.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 3.30% or 42.00 points to trade at 1231.00 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 2.28% or 4.10 points to end at 175.70 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 1.99% or 24.00 points to 1182.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1286 to 657 and 442 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.39% or 5.10 to $1313.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.17% or 0.08 to hit $46.52 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.19 to trade at $51.47 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.09% to 1.2933, while EUR/GBP fell 0.51% to 0.9218.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.40% at 92.64.
