Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 9.04% or 58.60 points to trade at 707.20 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 7.49% or 24.70 points to end at 354.70 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 7.30% or 65.80 points to 967.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 6.94% or 37.80 points to trade at 506.60 in late trade. BP PLC (LON:BP) declined 3.62% or 17.50 points to end at 465.85 and Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) shed 3.46% or 82.00 points to 2,285.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1200 to 600 and 465 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.67% or 12.45 to $1,858.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.24% or 3.26 to hit $73.67 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 4.18% or 3.43 to trade at $78.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.88% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.30% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 103.96.
