Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Media and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 2.47% or 11.30 points to trade at 469.65 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 2.08% or 31.50 points to end at 1,547.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 1.98% or 21.00 points to 1,080.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 4.72% or 61.00 points to trade at 1,231.50 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 2.62% or 68.00 points to end at 2,523.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 1.63% or 6.80 points to 411.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 964 to 659 and 482 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.05% or 1.05 to $1,962.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.48% or 0.36 to hit $76.11 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.41 to trade at $80.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.00% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.30% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.61% at 99.58.
