Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Travel & Leisure, Life Insurance/Assurance and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 14.84% or 76.00 points to trade at 588.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 6.00% or 70.00 points to end at 1,236.00 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 4.91% or 6.40 points to 136.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which lost 8.36% or 208.00 points to trade at 2,279.50 in late trade. Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) declined 1.43% or 36.00 points to end at 2,490.00 and Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) shed 1.35% or 38.00 points to 2,774.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 995 to 632 and 489 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.46% or 9.35 to $2,045.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 4.04% or 2.92 to hit $69.40 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.60% or 2.78 to trade at $74.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 103.95.
