Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the General Industrial, Aerospace & Defense and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 2.25% or 6.40 points to trade at 290.60 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 2.05% or 5.40 points to end at 268.80 and Bunzl PLC (LON:BNZL) was up 2.01% or 59.00 points to 3,002.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT), which lost 4.23% or 115.00 points to trade at 2,601.00 in late trade. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) declined 3.52% or 56.50 points to end at 1,550.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 3.02% or 34.00 points to 1,091.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 965 to 661 and 475 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.32% or 6.55 to $2,040.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.94% or 2.29 to hit $75.57 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.80% or 2.32 to trade at $80.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.13% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 103.27.
