Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Engineering and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 5.28% or 23.05 points to trade at 460.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 3.90% or 40.00 points to end at 1,064.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 3.54% or 51.50 points to 1,507.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 5.11% or 119.00 points to trade at 2,209.00 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 4.38% or 53.50 points to end at 1,167.00 and Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) shed 3.70% or 28.80 points to 750.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 962 to 752 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.57% or 11.25 to $1,958.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.53% or 2.37 to hit $69.49 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 3.54% or 2.54 to trade at $74.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.83% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.43% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 102.81.
