Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Electrical and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 2.57% or 33.50 points to trade at 1,337.50 at the close. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) added 2.03% or 43.00 points to end at 2,157.00 and GSK plc (LON:GSK) was up 1.76% or 25.40 points to 1,470.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 3.18% or 23.00 points to trade at 700.80 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 2.96% or 15.60 points to end at 510.80 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 2.85% or 10.90 points to 371.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 865 to 865 and 516 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.01% or 0.25 to $2,020.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.27% or 0.90 to hit $69.97 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.23% or 0.92 to trade at $74.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.44% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.11% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.61% at 102.49.
