Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electrical, Travel & Leisure and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 5.05% or 36.40 points to trade at 757.40 at the close. 3I Group PLC (LON:III) added 3.32% or 47.00 points to end at 1,462.50 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) was up 3.27% or 2.50 points to 79.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 2.61% or 23.20 points to trade at 864.20 in late trade. AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) declined 1.93% or 220.00 points to end at 11,200.00 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) shed 1.75% or 2.55 points to 143.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1100 to 672 and 486 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.23% or 4.35 to $1,928.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.23% or 0.99 to hit $81.60 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.52% or 1.31 to trade at $87.47 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 101.88.
