Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Life Insurance/Assurance and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 15.37% or 45.30 points to trade at 340.00 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 3.25% or 3.58 points to end at 113.74 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 2.85% or 52.0 points to 1877.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which lost 3.03% or 5.25 points to trade at 168.15 in late trade. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) declined 1.89% or 31.50 points to end at 1635.00 and Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) shed 1.26% or 18.00 points to 1407.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1202 to 733 and 479 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.33% or 23.75 to $1807.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 5.89% or 3.66 to hit $65.80 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 5.65% or 3.66 to trade at $68.41 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.75% to 1.3723, while EUR/GBP fell 0.26% to 0.8554.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 93.062.
