Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Transportation and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.26% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 3.89% or 28.20 points to trade at 753.20 at the close. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) added 3.30% or 48.00 points to end at 1,501.00 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) was up 2.61% or 11.30 points to 444.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 5.67% or 77.50 points to trade at 1,289.00 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 1.19% or 3.60 points to end at 298.80 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) shed 1.16% or 6.60 points to 563.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1057 to 523 and 530 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.06% or 21.90 to $2,091.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.64% or 1.24 to hit $74.33 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.42% or 1.15 to trade at $79.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.52% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 100.62.
