Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Media, Travel & Leisure and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.23% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 7.54% or 9.35 points to trade at 133.35 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 6.94% or 85.00 points to end at 1,310.00 and Relx PLC (LON:REL) was up 4.68% or 119.00 points to 2,661.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP), which lost 16.03% or 189.60 points to trade at 993.40 in late trade. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) declined 5.87% or 106.00 points to end at 1,701.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) shed 5.28% or 8.66 points to 155.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1008 to 634 and 502 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.14% or 22.55 to $1,947.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.95% or 1.54 to hit $80.32 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.55% or 1.28 to trade at $83.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.73% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.71% at 101.35.
