Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Tobacco and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq), which rose 1,000.00% or 0.45 points to trade at 0.50 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 5.73% or 41.60 points to end at 767.60 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 2.23% or 61.00 points to 2,801.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Next PLC (LON:NXT), which lost 3.26% or 208.00 points to trade at 6,176.00 in late trade. Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) declined 3.25% or 365.00 points to end at 10,860.00 and Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) shed 3.14% or 102.00 points to 3,150.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1140 to 721 and 447 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.46% or 28.30 to $1,965.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.53% or 1.76 to hit $113.17 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.40% or 1.70 to trade at $119.90 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 1.32, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 98.85.
