Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, General Industrial and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 8.10% or 45.80 points to trade at 611.00 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 3.79% or 2.71 points to end at 74.28 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 3.75% or 10.30 points to 285.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which lost 4.07% or 2.94 points to trade at 69.36 in late trade. Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) declined 2.14% or 16.40 points to end at 750.60 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 2.03% or 7.30 points to 352.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1110 to 696 and 459 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.52% or 8.60 to $1,655.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.11% or 1.78 to hit $82.75 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.51% or 1.38 to trade at $90.24 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.44% to 1.13, while EUR/GBP rose 0.72% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 112.02.
