Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Aerospace & Defense and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.18% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 3.37% or 10.90 points to trade at 334.20 at the close. AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) added 3.21% or 324.00 points to end at 10,418.00 and Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) was up 2.24% or 1.47 points to 67.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which lost 5.97% or 8.30 points to trade at 130.80 in late trade. Beazley PLC (LON:BEZG) declined 2.56% or 15.00 points to end at 570.00 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) shed 2.20% or 5.00 points to 222.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 848 to 823 and 730 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.19% or 3.85 to $2,027.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.13% or 0.10 to hit $78.36 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.05 to trade at $83.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.13% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 104.22.
