Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 2.40% or 3.68 points to trade at 156.86 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 2.17% or 34.50 points to end at 1,625.50 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 2.02% or 6.80 points to 343.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 4.07% or 85.00 points to trade at 2,003.00 in late trade. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 2.42% or 16.20 points to end at 653.40 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 2.41% or 10.70 points to 433.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1095 to 701 and 526 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.05% or 0.95 to $1,819.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.98% or 0.76 to hit $76.82 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.51 to trade at $82.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.18, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.03% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 105.64.
