Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.13% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which rose 2.53% or 31.50 points to trade at 1,277.50 at the close. Next PLC (LON:NXT) added 2.32% or 154.00 points to end at 6,794.00 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) was up 2.20% or 1.78 points to 82.76 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 5.95% or 161.50 points to trade at 2,552.50 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 5.72% or 311.00 points to end at 5,131.00 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) shed 4.60% or 113.50 points to 2,355.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 883 to 880 and 510 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.31% or 26.35 to $1,992.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.54% or 0.42 to hit $77.79 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.53 to trade at $81.63 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.22% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 101.43.
