Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 6.55% or 12.00 points to trade at 195.15 at the close. Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) added 6.54% or 37.80 points to end at 615.60 and Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) was up 2.42% or 36.50 points to 1542.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 3.96% or 39.00 points to trade at 947.20 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 3.59% or 67.0 points to end at 1798.4 and Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) shed 3.13% or 51.50 points to 1594.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1264 to 912 and 236 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.01% or 0.15 to $1895.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.26% or 0.88 to hit $69.08 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.18% or 0.85 to trade at $71.37 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.29% to 1.4160, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.8591.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 90.135.
