Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Software & Computer Services and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO), which rose 4.67% or 57.00 points to trade at 1278.50 at the close. DCC plc (LON:DCC) added 3.70% or 255.0 points to end at 7155.0 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 2.53% or 52.00 points to 2108.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 1.65% or 92.00 points to trade at 5480.00 in late trade. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 1.60% or 8.60 points to end at 527.60 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) shed 1.17% or 4.80 points to 404.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1140 to 813 and 334 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.29% or 3.60 to $1243.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.80% or 0.56 to hit $70.89 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.22% or 0.91 to trade at $75.36 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.08% to 1.3216, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8830.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 94.58.
