Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Chemicals, Industrial Metals & Mining and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.11% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 6.59% or 102.50 points to trade at 1,657.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 4.83% or 115.50 points to end at 2,506.00 and Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) was up 4.73% or 268.00 points to 5,930.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which lost 5.17% or 110.00 points to trade at 2,016.00 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 2.74% or 14.60 points to end at 518.40 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 2.65% or 4.05 points to 149.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 928 to 701 and 498 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.09% or 1.70 to $1,963.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.18% or 0.93 to hit $79.67 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.90% or 0.74 to trade at $83.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.35% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP fell 0.63% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 101.15.
