Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Media and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 21.66% or 73.60 points to trade at 413.45 at the close. Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) added 3.55% or 27.40 points to end at 799.20 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) was up 2.55% or 270.00 points to 10,875.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 4.13% or 22.00 points to trade at 510.60 in late trade. DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) declined 2.64% or 8.60 points to end at 317.70 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 2.51% or 40.50 points to 1,574.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 994 to 757 and 496 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.56% or 11.15 to $2,018.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.12% or 1.68 to hit $77.56 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.24% or 1.86 to trade at $81.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 101.50.
