Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Tobacco, Food Producers and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.08% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which rose 2.39% or 41.80 points to trade at 1791.00 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 2.20% or 1.56 points to end at 72.56 and Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) was up 2.07% or 21.40 points to 1056.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which lost 4.67% or 9.46 points to trade at 193.14 in late trade. Hiscox Ltd (LON:HSX) declined 2.25% or 32.00 points to end at 1389.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 2.17% or 29.50 points to 1330.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1099 to 974 and 245 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.62% or 9.25 to $1492.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.63% or 0.93 to hit $56.30 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.89% or 1.19 to trade at $61.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.23% to 1.2853, while EUR/GBP rose 0.23% to 0.8611.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 97.773.
