Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.07% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which rose 1.54% or 58.50 points to trade at 3858.00 at the close. WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) added 1.20% or 2.60 points to end at 219.20 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was up 1.07% or 53.00 points to 4998.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 3.22% or 37.00 points to trade at 1111.00 in late trade. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) declined 2.52% or 6.90 points to end at 267.35 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) shed 1.27% or 2.90 points to 224.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1172 to 882 and 136 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.37% or 4.80 to $1296.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.08% or 0.05 to hit $59.59 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.20% or 0.13 to trade at $65.86 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.37% to 1.3452, while EUR/GBP rose 0.10% to 0.8886.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 92.30.
