Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Insurance, Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.06% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Entain PLC (LON:ENT), which rose 4.34% or 34.00 points to trade at 818.20 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 4.05% or 107.00 points to end at 2,750.00 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 3.41% or 11.60 points to 351.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD), which lost 2.96% or 3.55 points to trade at 116.60 in late trade. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) declined 2.13% or 130.00 points to end at 5,974.00 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) shed 2.05% or 10.80 points to 517.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1127 to 634 and 665 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.29% or 6.75 to $2,353.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.09% or 0.91 to hit $82.94 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.76 to trade at $87.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.54% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.29% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 105.56.
