Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 4.31% or 24.00 points to trade at 581.40 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 4.08% or 57.00 points to end at 1,454.00 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) was up 3.16% or 17.20 points to 561.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shell PLC (LON:SHEL), which lost 3.11% or 80.00 points to trade at 2,491.00 in late trade. BP PLC (LON:BP) declined 2.62% or 12.40 points to end at 461.45 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 1.28% or 24.00 points to 1,846.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 901 to 720 and 491 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.53% or 10.95 to $2,038.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.71% or 3.48 to hit $70.33 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 3.95% or 3.11 to trade at $75.65 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 101.81.
