Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 3.26% or 13.10 points to trade at 415.00 at the close. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 2.08% or 82.00 points to end at 4024.50 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 1.62% or 80.00 points to 5020.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 2.96% or 20.80 points to trade at 681.00 in late trade. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) declined 1.97% or 39.50 points to end at 1970.50 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) shed 1.62% or 3.90 points to 236.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1068 to 921 and 150 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.99% or 13.40 to $1338.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.97% or 0.64 to hit $65.50 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.41% or 0.99 to trade at $69.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.79% to 1.4048, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.8795.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.54% at 89.35.
