Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Media and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.04% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 14.53% or 39.20 points to trade at 309.00 at the close. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) added 8.62% or 99.00 points to end at 1247.50 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 2.49% or 4.65 points to 191.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 4.96% or 18.30 points to trade at 350.70 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.76% or 36.50 points to end at 1288.00 and Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) shed 1.65% or 21.00 points to 1253.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1068 to 839 and 382 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.42% or 5.60 to $1317.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.38% or 0.26 to hit $68.36 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.00% or 0.74 to trade at $74.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.25% to 1.3745, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.8788.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 91.61.
