Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.02% to hit a new 3-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG), which rose 4.18% or 280.00 points to trade at 6970.00 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) added 3.19% or 69.00 points to end at 2229.00 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa) was up 2.64% or 57.50 points to 2233.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC), which lost 32.40% or 837.50 points to trade at 1747.50 in late trade. Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) declined 7.16% or 331.50 points to end at 4299.00 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) shed 5.87% or 3.95 points to 63.30.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1139 to 1025 and 220 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.04% or 0.55 to $1481.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.25% or 0.75 to hit $60.89 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.85 to trade at $66.19 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 1.53% to 1.3125, while EUR/GBP rose 1.67% to 0.8497.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 96.740.
