Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Chemicals and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.02% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 5.61% or 7.20 points to trade at 135.50 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 2.45% or 24.40 points to end at 1022.00 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 2.27% or 47.00 points to 2122.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which lost 4.58% or 11.00 points to trade at 229.00 in late trade. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 3.94% or 19.90 points to end at 484.90 and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) shed 2.57% or 8.60 points to 325.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1030 to 965 and 328 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.40 to $1220.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $66.89 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.09 to trade at $72.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.15% to 1.2862, while EUR/GBP fell 0.27% to 0.8988.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 95.25.
