Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Food & Drug Retailers and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.50%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which rose 5.36% or 6.4000 points to trade at 125.8500 at the close. Meanwhile, WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (L:MRW) added 3.86% or 6.60 points to end at 177.50 and G4S PLC (L:GFS) was up 3.11% or 7.60 points to 252.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Taylor Wimpey PLC (L:TW), which fell 3.94% or 7.40 points to trade at 180.30 at the close. Persimmon PLC (L:PSN) declined 3.23% or 62.00 points to end at 1859.00 and British Land Company PLC (L:BLND) was down 2.57% or 22.00 points to 835.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1163 to 953 and 433 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.10% or 1.10 to $1113.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.84% or 1.36 to hit $46.54 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.24% or 1.64 to trade at $48.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.21% to 1.5389, while EUR/GBP fell 0.71% to 0.7060.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.77% at 98.00.
