Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.56% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which rose 2.46% or 12.000 points to trade at 499.500 at the close. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) added 1.39% or 3.100 points to end at 226.800 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) was up 0.97% or 2.00 points to 207.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 6.99% or 80.00 points to trade at 1064.00 in late trade. Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSa) declined 4.91% or 85.00 points to end at 1648.00 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) shed 4.73% or 20.40 points to 411.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1474 to 592 and 445 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.72% or 21.90 to $1252.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.75% or 0.36 to hit $47.83 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.90% or 0.44 to trade at $48.49 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.4606, while EUR/GBP fell 0.17% to 0.7671.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 95.28.
