Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Forestry & Paper and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 3.78% or 13.150 points to trade at 361.000 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 3.28% or 10.40 points to end at 327.20 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 3.05% or 149.00 points to 5040.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 8.95% or 141.00 points to trade at 1435.00 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 6.74% or 430.00 points to end at 5955.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 6.34% or 41.800 points to 617.200.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1465 to 818 and 424 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 2.70% or 34.15 to $1232.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.71% or 1.21 to hit $43.45 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.73% or 1.25 to trade at $44.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.2605, while EUR/GBP fell 0.89% to 0.8603.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 99.04.
