Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD), which rose 6.16% or 18.300 points to trade at 315.600 at the close. GKN PLC (LON:GKN) added 4.79% or 14.90 points to end at 325.90 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 2.67% or 4.30 points to 165.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 2.90% or 62.00 points to trade at 2078.00 in late trade. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) declined 2.83% or 6.50 points to end at 223.35 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) shed 2.41% or 39.5 points to 1599.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1179 to 976 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.42% or 5.55 to $1316.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.73% or 1.22 to hit $43.48 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 2.47% or 1.16 to trade at $45.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.03% to 1.3276, while EUR/GBP fell 0.69% to 0.8434.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.36% at 95.66.
