Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Oil & Gas Producers and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 7.59% or 34.850 points to trade at 493.900 at the close. Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD) added 5.88% or 23.600 points to end at 425.100 and GKN PLC (LON:GKN) was up 3.69% or 10.40 points to 292.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which lost 5.27% or 73.00 points to trade at 1312.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 4.28% or 23.00 points to end at 514.50 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) shed 2.95% or 8.300 points to 273.200.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1324 to 804 and 444 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.08% or 13.60 to $1251.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $40.20 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.41 to trade at $41.13 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.06% to 1.4489, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.7779.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.31% at 95.06.
