Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Electrical, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK), which rose 4.76% or 171.00 points to trade at 3765.00 at the close. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) added 3.19% or 46.00 points to end at 1487.00 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) was up 1.31% or 3.40 points to 263.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which lost 5.86% or 515.00 points to trade at 8270.00 in late trade. Standard Life PLC (LON:SL) declined 3.77% or 15.10 points to end at 384.90 and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) shed 2.93% or 10.20 points to 338.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1036 to 932 and 415 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.52% or 6.35 to $1219.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.24% or 0.13 to hit $53.33 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.05 to trade at $56.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.25% to 1.2207, while EUR/GBP rose 0.24% to 0.8670.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 101.68.
