Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Forestry & Paper and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which rose 4.29% or 9.200 points to trade at 223.700 at the close. Standard Life PLC (LON:SL) added 4.12% or 13.200 points to end at 333.300 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 3.74% or 6.1500 points to 170.4000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 3.60% or 22.60 points to trade at 606.10 in late trade. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) declined 3.22% or 13.00 points to end at 390.70 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 2.93% or 12.70 points to 421.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1028 to 976 and 496 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.27% or 3.45 to $1273.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.95% or 0.46 to hit $48.77 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.35 to trade at $49.63 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.04% to 1.4612, while EUR/GBP fell 1.35% to 0.7717.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 94.70.
