Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Transportation and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 3.73% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 9.52% or 138.00 points to trade at 1587.00 at the close. Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) added 9.03% or 116.00 points to end at 1400.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 8.93% or 10.90 points to 132.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 3.81% or 33.50 points to trade at 844.50 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 1.93% or 6.60 points to end at 335.40 and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LON:ICAG) gained 0.59% or 2.10 points to 359.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1840 to 386 and 352 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.82% or 10.75 to $1328.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.78% or 1.33 to hit $49.18 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.78% or 1.37 to trade at $50.63 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.13% to 1.3497, while EUR/GBP fell 0.71% to 0.8234.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 95.74.
