Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Oil & Gas Producers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which rose 4.36% or 10.700 points to trade at 256.000 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LON:ICAG) added 3.67% or 19.50 points to end at 551.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 3.47% or 18.600 points to 554.600 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which lost 10.19% or 45.30 points to trade at 399.40 in late trade. Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) declined 5.61% or 185.00 points to end at 3112.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 2.71% or 5.70 points to 204.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1306 to 725 and 479 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.53% or 6.55 to $1222.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.60% or 0.29 to hit $48.91 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.07% or 0.52 to trade at $49.13 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.39% to 1.4692, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.7593.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 95.46.
