Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Aerospace & Defense and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which rose 12.39% or 81.50 points to trade at 739.50 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 5.51% or 31.50 points to end at 603.50 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 5.05% or 41.00 points to 853.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ITV PLC (LON:ITV), which lost 2.61% or 5.40 points to trade at 201.80 in late trade. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) declined 2.60% or 5.50 points to end at 206.35 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) shed 1.83% or 39.00 points to 2087.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1133 to 820 and 443 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.04% or 0.55 to $1229.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.16% or 0.53 to hit $46.05 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.03% or 0.50 to trade at $48.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.25% to 1.2954, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.8489.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 98.51.
