Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Forestry & Paper and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK), which rose 3.30% or 134.00 points to trade at 4200.00 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) added 2.88% or 16.00 points to end at 572.00 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) was up 2.85% or 46.00 points to 1657.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 3.52% or 29.50 points to trade at 808.50 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.82% or 41.00 points to end at 1411.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 2.48% or 27.50 points to 1079.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1331 to 686 and 411 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.08% or 1.05 to $1256.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.90% or 0.44 to hit $48.40 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.74% or 0.38 to trade at $51.14 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.24% to 1.2916, while EUR/GBP fell 0.14% to 0.8448.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 98.96.
