Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 7.57% or 79.00 points to trade at 1123.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) added 6.84% or 400.00 points to end at 6250.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 5.52% or 7.1000 points to 135.6500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which lost 4.42% or 7.5000 points to trade at 162.0000 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 4.17% or 10.700 points to end at 246.200 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) shed 3.82% or 7.50 points to 188.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1166 to 882 and 468 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 2.44% or 29.55 to $1242.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.71% or 0.35 to hit $48.82 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.54% or 0.27 to trade at $49.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.69% to 1.4522, while EUR/GBP rose 0.92% to 0.7803.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.50% at 94.13.
