Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.24% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 3.84% or 47.50 points to trade at 1285.00 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) added 3.60% or 12.40 points to end at 357.00 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 2.24% or 8.700 points to 396.400 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 4.53% or 54.00 points to trade at 1137.73 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 3.49% or 50.00 points to end at 1383.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) shed 3.11% or 150.50 points to 4684.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1063 to 879 and 394 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.25% or 3.00 to $1182.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 3.27% or 1.66 to hit $52.48 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 3.32% or 1.78 to trade at $55.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.38% to 1.2130, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8652.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.47% at 102.49.
