Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Forestry & Paper and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Schroders PLC (LON:SDR), which rose 2.15% or 68.00 points to trade at 3225.00 at the close. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) added 2.02% or 12.50 points to end at 630.00 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 1.69% or 21.00 points to 1263.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which lost 3.19% or 138.00 points to trade at 4186.50 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.73% or 39.00 points to end at 1388.00 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) shed 2.42% or 6.90 points to 278.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1044 to 838 and 472 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.20% or 2.36 to $1212.06 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.68% or 0.30 to hit $44.53 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.31 to trade at $47.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.08% to 1.2881, while EUR/GBP rose 0.06% to 0.8849.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 95.82.
