Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), the pioneering electric vehicle manufacturer, has reopened preorders for its much-anticipated Cybertruck, a move that marks a significant step in the company's expansion into the electric pickup truck market.
The original reservation system, introduced in 2019 with a $100 deposit, has undergone changes, leading to an updated ordering process.
The Cybertruck's debut is a notable event in the electric vehicle industry. Early adopters, who had previously placed $100 deposits, received their Cybertruck models at a special event in Texas.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that over 1 million preorders were registered, reflecting the vehicle's high demand.
Tesla's revised preorder system now requires a $250 refundable deposit.
The company offers a selection of models, including rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and the new high-performance "Cyberbeast" variant.
Notably, the base price of the Cybertruck has increased from the initially advertised $39,900 to a starting price of $60,990.
Unique design and performance capabilities
The Cybertruck models vary in terms of availability, range, acceleration, top speed, horsepower, torque and towing capacity.
The most advanced model, the Cyberbeast, boasts impressive specifications such as 320 miles of estimated range and an acceleration of 0-60 mph in just 2.6 seconds, with a towing capacity of 11,000 lbs.
This launch positions Tesla in direct competition with other electric pickup trucks, such as Ford's F-150 Lightning and Rivian's R1T.
The Cybertruck's unique design and performance capabilities distinguish it in a rapidly growing market segment.
Prospective buyers interested in the Cybertruck can now place their orders through Tesla's website, with deliveries for different models slated for 2024 and 2025.
