Tempest Minerals Ltd (ASX:TEM) is forging ahead with exploration activities at the Yalgoo region projects, which range across a substantial landholding of 1,000 square kilometres in a highly prospective polymetallic belt.
Previous drilling has already demonstrated promising mineralisation potential for copper, gold and rare earths with Tempest engaged in further analysis and planning for multiple exploration fronts, including surface geochemistry, regional geophysics and drilling.
"Foundational understanding"
Managing director Don Smith said: “The Tempest team is excited to build upon our hard work to date.
“The high-quality data we generated in our work to date has laid the foundational understanding for us to reprioritise new and existing targets for focused exploration campaigns.”
The Yalgoo region plays a significant role in Tempest Minerals' exploration and project development efforts. The region consists of four project areas — Messenger, Meleya, War West and Euro — that overlap geologically.
Expansive holdings
With some judicious tenement consolidation on the part of Tempest, these areas have become an almost contiguous holding, covering more than 1,000 square kilometres.
Tempest views the region as highly prospective and has been exploring it for several years, successfully discovering multiple zones of mineralisation in previously unrecognised geological terrains.
The Messenger project, with an area of about 170 square kilometres, borders the EMR Golden Grove base and precious metal mine, along with other gold operations in the vicinity. It has shown strong potential for discovery, with previous drilling intercepting high-grade veins and anomalous gold zones.
A new geological model for the project reveals extensive underexplored volcanics, greenstones and quartz lodes prospective for gold, nickel, and valuable Golden Grove stratigraphy, known for base and precious metals.
The War West project, identified by Tempest in 2018, is an Intrusive Related Gold (IRG) system covering 55 square kilometres. It has undergone successful gold prospecting and artisanal mining for several decades.
Open mineralised zone
Drilling in 2020 confirmed the IRG concept, intersecting shallow high-grade gold and disseminated gold mineralisation zones. The mineralised zone remains open at depth and along strike. The drilling program also revealed previously unknown shallow greenstones, expanding the exploration potential in the region and opening up numerous exploration targets.
The Meleya Project emerged from data analysis and fieldwork conducted by Tempest at the adjoining War West Project. Inconsistencies in state mapping led to the discovery of inaccurately mapped geology. Prior to Tempest's involvement, this area had not been explored or leased. The project presents significant opportunities within the broader Yalgoo Belt.
Tempest Minerals' ongoing exploration efforts in the Yalgoo region demonstrate its commitment to unlocking the potential of these project areas.
The combination of previous drilling results, new geological models, and extensive planned exploration campaigns positions Tempest well for further discoveries and advancements in the region.
