Talon Energy Ltd (ASX:TPD) is confident a Pilot Well Program at the Gurvantes XXXV CSG Project in Mongolia’s South Gobi Basin will begin flowing gas to surface within three months of the wells’ extended production testing.
The project’s three pilot wells are in the final commissioning phase prior to the expected start of extended production next week.
Talon Energy has a 33% interest in the project, while TMK Energy, its joint venture partner and operator of the coal seam gas (CSG) project, has 67%.
All systems go
“The Gurvantes XXXV Coal Seam Gas Project continues to develop at pace as we commence final commissioning activities,” Talon managing director and chief executive officer Colby Hauser said.
“The joint venture has been very busy over the last couple of weeks with the successful installation and testing of the pumps and the drive heads, which has confirmed they are operational and ready for start-up.
“After testing the SCADA equipment for functionality, the project will look to start up the pumps and begin the dewatering process of the wells.
“We are confident in initial gas breakthrough after a projected 2-3 months dewatering process.”
About the project
The Gurvantes XXXV Project covers an area of 8,400 square kilometres and is in what is considered one of the most prospective coal seam gas basins globally.
Gurvantes is less than 20 kilometres from the Chinese-Mongolian border and close to the extensive Northern China gas transmission and distribution network.
It is also proximate to several large-scale mining operations with high energy needs and is ideally placed to meet local Mongolian as well as Chinese energy requirements.
