Taiton Resources Ltd (ASX:T88) has gained a deeper understanding of the geological profile of the Merino prospect within its Highway Project in the Gawler Craton of South Australia following the completion of a maiden reverse circulation (RC) drilling program.
The mineral exploration and development company drilled 22 RC holes for 3,062 metres to test an induced polarisation (IP) anomalism identified earlier this year and to follow up on shallow historical drill holes with molybdenum and base metal anomalism.
Most holes reached planned depth, with all samples dispatched to the laboratory in Adelaide.
Initial assay results are expected in about five weeks.
Clearer visibility
“The completion of the drilling program has given Taiton Resources clear visibility on the Merino prospect,” Taiton executive director Noel Ong said.
“We now have a better understanding of the mineral system and where prime mineralisation may be located.
“The exploration team will now look at the data and await assay results.
“In the meantime, the team will look at the learnings of this drilling program and apply them to the regional prospectivity of the Highway project.

Systematic approach
The focus of the drilling program was on Priority 1 targets, identified through historical shallow geochemical anomalies and corroborated by alteration halos captured in radiometric imagery and an IP survey conducted earlier this year.
These activities are part of Taiton’s systematic approach to exploring Merino, first announced on August 2, 2023.
The scale of exploration covered an alteration footprint measuring a nominal 3.7 kilometres by 2.6 kilometres and depths ranging from less than 10 metres to over 500 metres below the surface.
