Sunstone Metals Ltd (ASX:STM) has appointed chartered accountant and corporate development expert Patrick Duffy as a non-executive director, tapping his international leadership and deep industry knowledge to take the company’s Ecuador projects forward.

Duffy’s career began at Ernst & Young and since then he has held prominent leadership and executive positions in the international resources sector.

Management experience

Notably, he was chief corporate development officer and chief financial officer (CFO) at Red 5 Ltd, where he played a crucial role in establishing Red 5 as a successful mid-tier Australian gold producer.

This was accomplished through the development, construction and production ramp-up of the new 5.5 million tonnes per annum King of the Hills Gold Mine (KOTH) in Western Australia.

While there, his responsibilities covered financial management, investor relations, business development and strategic activities, including securing global equity and debt funding for the KOTH project and facilitating the sale of the Siana Gold Mine in the Philippines.

International experience

Duffy also served as CFO for the development of Xstrata's US$6 billion Tampakan Copper and Gold Project in the Philippines and as director of Strategy and Performance for the construction and production ramp-up of Glencore Xstrata (LON:GLEN)'s US$7 billion Koniambo Nickel Project in New Caledonia.

His professional journey has taken him across Asia and the Pacific with mining, steel, private equity and agricultural technology companies, including establishing a Hong Kong-based management consulting company.

Vital addition

“It is extremely pleasing to have Patrick join the company,” Sunstone Metals chairman Graham Ascough said.

“His wealth of experience and knowledge within the resources industry will be invaluable to Sunstone as it moves forward with our highly prospective projects in Ecuador.

“Both I and my fellow directors look forward to working with Patrick and I’m confident that he will be able to positively contribute to the future success of the company.”

Duffy joins Ascough, chief executive officer and managing director Malcolm Norris, and non-executive director Stephen Stroud to complete the Sunstone Metals board.
