Queensland Pacific Metals Ltd (ASX:QPM)'s wholly-owned subsidiary, QPM Energy (QPME), has executed an Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) with the Widi Aboriginal Corporation (WAC), representing the Traditional Owners of the land.
Vital step
The ILUA involves collaboration with the Widi People and is vital for QPME to meet Native Title requirements.
QPME's waste gas collection project consists of two hubs: the Northern and Southern Hubs. The latter includes the recently acquired Moranbah Project and its associated gas processing infrastructure.
The Northern Hub is around 40 kilometres north of Moranbah, in the Northern Bowen Basin, an area known for high gas volumes.
The company’s goal is to increase waste gas collection and production through new infrastructure at this Northern Hub.
Environmental approvals near completion
This milestone paves the way for the development of QPME’s Northern Hub, especially as environmental approvals are also in their final stages.
QPME has obtained an Environmental Authority from the Queensland Government for the Northern Hub, moving the project a step closer to operational readiness.
Federal environmental approvals for the Northern Hub project are also nearing completion. When QPME gets the green light on these, it will be poised to roll out new infrastructure for waste gas collection, extending north of existing operations.
Commitment to community
As part of the ILUA, QPME has committed to providing employment, education and training opportunities for the Widi People.
WAC expressed its support for the project: “The Widi people welcome and support QPM Energy’s developments in the Northern Bowen Basin and we look forward to working with David Wrench and his team on opportunities.
“We further endorse QPM Energy’s carbon abatement strategy, capturing waste gas from these mines and minimising the effect on our land and the environment around us.”
