Piedmont Lithium (ASX:NASDAQ:PLL, OTC:PLLTL) Ltd has welcomed strong assay results from the Ewoyaa Lithium Project in Ghana, West Africa, over which it has a funding agreement with Atlantic Lithium Ltd (AIM:ALL, OTCQX:ALLIF, ASX:A11).
Ghana’s first lithium mine
The partnership aims to establish Ghana's first lithium mine, and it moved towards this goal with more high-grade lithium intersections arising out of the 2023 drill campaign.
Assays are in for some 7,220 metres of extensional resource drilling, which uncovered multiple high-grade and broad lithium intersections at some new targets.
Areas such as Dog-Leg, Okwesi, Anokyi and Ewoyaa-South 2 are all outside the current mineral resource estimate (MRE) of 35.3 million tonnes at 1.25% Li2O.
Among the highlights are intersections such as 83 metres at 1% Li2O from 36 metres at the Dog-Leg target and 47 metres at 1.05% from 87 metres.
Expansion beyond current resource
These results underscore the potential for significant resource expansion beyond the existing MRE, particularly at the Dog-Leg target where drilling intersected shallow dipping, near-surface mineralised pegmatite bodies with true thicknesses of up to 35 metres.
Atlantic has indicated that drilling will resume shortly, with a focus on a 3,000-metre plant site sterilisation program to support mine site commissioning.
This will precede the completion of the remaining 26,500 metres of the resource growth and infill program initiated in 2023.
Atlantic executive chair Neil Herbert said: “These latest results from the new Dog-Leg target, Okwesi, Anokyi and Ewoyaa South-2 deposits have returned multiple high-grade and broad extensional intersections, including 83 metres at 1% Li2O from 36 metres and 47 metres at 1.05% Li2O from 87 metres at the new Dog-Leg target.
Near-surface new mineralisation
“All reported drilling results fall outside of the current MRE; pertinent in that they occur both within a new mineralised area at the Dog-Leg target and near surface at both the Dog-Leg target and Ewoyaa-South 2 deposit strike extension.
“We are excited to re-commence drilling for the 2024 season with an initial focus on 3,000 metres of sterilisation drilling at the proposed plant site and then the remaining meterage of the ongoing 26,500-metre resource drilling program targeting resource growth and conversion.”
