OpenAI has expanded the availability of its highly anticipated ChatGPT iOS app to 41 additional countries in two separate roll outs between yesterday and today.
This expansion comes hot on the heels of its successful launch in the United States last week, which hit more than 500,000 downloads in less than a week.
The roll out started yesterday with 11 countries which included United Kingdom, France and New Zealand, with 30 other countries joining the list today.
Australia is a noticible absentee from the list, with OpenAI assuring users that they are actively working towards expanding the app's availability to more countries, which potentially includes Australia.
We expanded the ChatGPT iOS app to 30+ more countries today! Now serving users in Algeria, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Estonia, Ghana, India, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lithuania (????1/2)— OpenAI (@OpenAI) May 25, 2023
While OpenAI had previously launched ChatGPT Plus in Australia in February, the delay in the app's release may disappoint Australian users.
One of the key highlights of the ChatGPT iOS app is the integration of Whisper, an open-source speech recognition system.
This groundbreaking feature allows users to input their queries and prompts through voice commands, further enhancing the conversational experience with the AI chatbot.
The app offers a seamless and intuitive interface, resembling popular messaging applications, enabling users to type text effortlessly at the bottom of the screen.
In addition to the iOS expansion, OpenAI has also hinted at an upcoming Android app, allowing users of that operating system to join the growing community of ChatGPT app users.
Despite the initial enthusiasm surrounding the app's launch, some users worldwide reported instances of ChatGPT being unresponsive over the past 24 hours.
Reports indicate that this outage predominantly affected free users, while ChatGPT Plus subscribers remained unaffected.
